The Legend of Zelda Timeline
Jan 21, 2012
Above is a graphic I made representing Link as he evolved into the character he is today in the Legend of Zelda series. This certainly doesn’t cover every Zelda game out there but it does show the main franchise games that came out over Nintendo’s history on their consoles. Click on the graphic for a larger version.

Kid Icarus Updated Into Playable 16-bits
Jan 12, 2012

Kid Icarus, Nintendo’s most demanded sequel of a game is now available in a new, updated web version that looks like it’s from the Super Nintendo generation. Technically it’s a remake and not a sequel but that doesn’t matter so much because it’s a new new version of Kid Icarus! It might even be enough to hold us over until March 23, when Kid Icarus Uprising comes out for the 3DS. Then again maybe not. Much like Super Mario Bros, the original Kid Icarus just doesn’t age. When you play it you think oh I’m playing Kid Icarus, not what is this dated garbage? I can’t stand it.

Huge Nintendo Image Shows Many Characters
Dec 28, 2011

Artist Luis Carrasquillo put together this massive montage of Nintendo characters that have appeared across numerous consoles. It’s difficult to comprehend just how many games make up Nintendo console libraries but this massive image may give you a better idea. And what you’re looking at above is just a screengrab of a small portion of the image. The full image size is over 3,000 pixels in width.

Warioland 4 on Game Boy Advance
Dec 25, 2011

Looking around on the internet the other day, I came across this beautiful artwork for Warioland 4, a Game Boy Advance game that Nintendo released back in 2001. This game may be forgotten by now but it’s actually a really fun game that’s worth taking a second look at. Unlike most other Nintendo platformers that have 40-100 levels to discover, Warioland 4 only has 20 levels to explore. But the levels are more massive than what you’re used to. Each level has a theme (jungle, ruins, haunted hotel, etc.) and there are four themes to a passage. Once you get to the end of a level, a portal opens up which you must get to in a set amount of time or Wario will begin to lose the treasures he has collected along the way.
Warioland 4 is included in the list of Game Boy Advance games available for download for Nintendo 3DS as of December 16, 2011.

Super Mario 3D Land Jumps Your Way
Nov 13, 2011

Today, Nintendo has released Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS here in the U.S. Mario is back in what may look and sound familiar but there are a lot new things about this game which looks like a lot of fun. Super Mario 3D Land combines the elements of traditional side-scrolling Mario titles with those of the modern open world Mario titles. It has sold over 343,000 copies in its first week in Japan.

Super Mario World Earth
Jul 5, 2011

Super Mario World was a great first game on the SNES. The map was always unique. I believe that there were about seven different worlds the the player would go through. The above map is what Super Mario World would look like if the game took place on planet earth.

Robin Williams Stars in Zelda Commercial
Jun 15, 2011
I just saw a new commercial for the game Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D coming out on the 3DS on June 19. The commercial stars actor Robin Williams and his daughter Zelda Williams. The funny thing is that Zelda Williams, born in 1989, was indeed named after Zelda from the video game The Legend of Zelda which came out a few years earlier on the NES.
Nintendo 3DS eShop Now Available
Jun 11, 2011

Nintendo emailed me this morning that the 3DS eShop is finally available for use to browse and download games to the 3DS. Frankly I think this is something that Nintendo should have had ready since the 3DS was released a few months ago. The eShop is offering a free 3D version of the classic game Excitebike along with other game boy games such as Super Mario Land and Alleyway as well as some newer games like Plants Vs. Zombies. Netflix will also be made available to subscribers that will be able to watch movies in 3D.

Nintendo Announces Wii U Due in 2012
Jun 11, 2011

This year at the E3 Expo (June 7-9, 2011), Nintendo announced the Wii U, the successor to the popular Wii console. The new console is set to launch in 2012 and will offer high definition 1080 HD gaming, something Nintendo fans have been waiting for. The new console will be backwards-compatible with Wii games and some controllers like the wiimote and nunchuck.
In addition to the new console is the new 6.2-inch, 16:9 touchscreen tablet controller. This new controller will let you interact with games like never before. Put the controller on the floor and use it to tee off in a golf game. Use it as a scope to spy on people in an apartment building. Use it as a weapon and item select screen on your quest to find Zelda. The possibilities are endless. Check out the video below to see the new controller in action.
Nintendo Wii Price Drop And Budget Games
May 20, 2011

There was a time about five years ago that you couldn’t find a Wii console on the shelves of stores and they were selling online for more than double their retail price. Now however with just about every household in the world having one they are pretty easy to come by. Because the technology is dated and not selling as well Nintendo has dropped the price of the Wii from $199 to $149. In addition to that they are bundling in the Mario Kart Wii game.
Also, Nintendo just recently introduced the Nintendo Select line of games. Although it’s currently a small list, the games are great titles that are budgeted at only $20. The list includes:
- Animal Crossing: City Folk
- Mario Super Sluggers
- Zelda Twilight Princess
- Super Smash Bros: Brawl
Keep in mind that Nintendo has recently announced the launch of a new console expected to debut later this year and go on sale next year. The Wii may be near the end of it’s life cycle.
Nintendo 3DS Lite Improvements
Mar 30, 2011

I am the owner of a 3DS and although the system has a lot to offer I think that there are some major revisions that should happen when Nintendo releases a lite version of the system in a couple of years. While there are a lot of things that I love about the 3DS including the 3D joystick, great sound and power button placement, here is the list of things that Nintendo should consider improving on:
- Select, home and start buttons: I’m not sure what the 3DS designers were thinking when they made these flat buttons this way. Not only are they more difficult to find but they are also more difficult to push once you do find them.
- Thickness of the 3DS: If Apple can jam all that they can into an iPod Touch then there’s really no reason that the 3DS should be this thick and heavy.
- Quality of the 3D slider control: This little silver slider just feels so delicate and cheap compared to the volume and wireless sliders on the system.
- DPad: They should have left the same DPad from the DS Lite on the 3DS. It was easier to use and felt better.
- Touch screen: How about a touch screen that is more sensitive and supports multi-touch and gestures in the future?
- Stylus placement: Move it back to the right. It’s much easier to access it there.
- Battery life: At least make it comparable the the DS when 3D mode is not in use.
