Charles Adams Goodle Doodle
Jan 7, 2012

Growing up I was a big fan of The Addams Family so when I saw todays Google Doodle, I figured I should blog about it. The Doodle was made to celebrate Charles Adams January 7 birthday. Charles Adams was a cartoonist who created the Addams Family characters which led to two TV shows, cartoons, movies and a broadway show. My favorite Addams Family series was the 1964–1966 black comedy live-action sitcom. I was a big fan of that show when they played it on Nick At Night along with The Brady Bunch, Three’s Company and Gilligans Island which are some of my other favorite old shows from the 1960′s/70′s. I was surprised to see that there were only 2 seasons of that series made. It upsets me that these shows are hard to find on TV anymore.
Doodle Jump: A Simple, Simply Addictive App
Nov 13, 2011
Sometimes, the simpler the game, the more addictive it becomes. There’s something good about the simplicity of a game that requires little effort which makes it low-tense, relaxed and more enjoyable. Doodle Jump is just that, simple and addictive. In the game, you control the Doodler, a character that must get to the top! No one really knows why the Doodler must get to the top or even what’s up there but it really doesn’t matter about that. And even though the Doodler will never make it to the top because it’s impossible and doesn’t exist, the fun lies in the continuous jumping that the Doodler make on his way.
The way you control the Doodler as he jumps from platform to platform is by tilting your device left or right, using its built-in accelerometer. The control is so simple that it’s genius, but be careful because not every platform will support you and there are usually large gaps between them. Along the way, the Doodler can get a short boost from various objects including jetpacks, propeller hats, rockets, spring shoes and trampolines. There are also things that the Doodler must avoid including monsters and UFOs. If it is difficult to avoid them, the Doodler can shoot them (by tapping on the screen) or jump on them which will make them fall and they will terminate. Ultimately, the game ends when you can’t make a jump and fall to the bottom.
Another neat easter egg about the game is that there are a number of included themes. The themes don’t really affect gameplay except in some cases like the Halloween theme where it’s much darker and therefore more difficult. The themes that are currently available are: Original, Christmas, Halloween, Rainforest, Space, Soccer, Ocean, Easter. Developed by Lima Sky, Doodle Jump has already been downloaded over 10,000,000 times on multiple devices since it was first released in April, 2009. It’s nice to play a game that doesn’t involve different levels. How do you mark your success? High-scores! Go ahead, grab it for a buck and enjoy your flight.
Google’s Green Gumby Doodle
Oct 12, 2011

In celebration of Gumby creator Art Clokey’s what would have been the 90th birthday, Google today created a doodle that features Gumby and his pals and enemies. I say enemies because the Blockheads which make up Google’s capital ‘G’ and first ‘o’, are always trying to ruin Gumby’s plans on the TV show. And I say pals because Prickle, Goo an Pokey which make up the second ‘o’, second ‘g’ and ‘e’ respectively are always on Gumby’s side. I used to watch this TV show on Nickelodeon every day after school which is how I know so much about Gumby’s pals and enemies. Well done Google! You should see what Gumby can do today.
Google’s Interactive Les Paul Guitar Doodle
Jun 12, 2011

To celebrate Les Paul’s Birthday (Lester William Polsfuss June 9, 1915 – August 12, 2009), Google created an interactive Doodle logo that lets you strum the guitar with your mouse cursor and create your own music. The Doodle was so popular that Google created a standalone website for it. Les Paul was an American jazz and country guitarist, songwriter and inventor. He was a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar which made the sound of rock and roll possible.

Thomas Edison Google Doodle Logo
Feb 16, 2011

To celebrate Thomas Edison’s birthday on February 11th, Google created a logo with Thomas Edison’s famous invention, the electric lightbulb. In addition to inventing the light bulb, Thomas Edison has patents for over 1,000 other things including printing telegraphs, phonographs, telephones and lamps. Because of the genius that he was, several places have been named after Edison including the town of Edison, NJ, Thomas Edison State College, numerous high schools and bridges around the country and there’s now a Google Doodle to add to that list.
