It doesn’t seem that long ago that Sony released the Slim PS3 which just made the original PS3′s look prehistoric. Sony has just announced a new super slim PS3 that puts the slim PS3 to shame. It is roughly 20 percent lighter and 25 percent smaller than the slim PS3. New on the super slim is the absence of the familiar Blu-ray slot but instead features a conventional top loading disc tray. The console will include only two front-facing USB ports. The base model will jump from $250 to $270 when the updated console is released in America on September 25.

Okay, well here we go right here, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection that everyone’s been waiting for. The release will be November, 2011 and the collection comes with Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 and also Peace Walker in HD. It will be out for both 360 and PS3. I am very excited to replay Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 in HD. I’m also looking forward to playing Peace Walker for the first time.

I love Netflix. For under $10/month you get tons of movies and TV shows delivered directly to your computer or DVD via mail. The most convenient thing for me however is Netflix’s streaming service via Wii or PS3 because it lets me watch my favorite movies right on my TV, where they belong. The only problem I had been having with the old Netflix streaming system was that the service could get lousy due to the disc having to be in in order for the Streaming service to work. I had to order 3 new discs over the past 6 months due to them simply not working.
Today however Netflix has gone disc-free for Wii and PS3. It’s been a long time coming. As I type this I’m watching “The Brady Bunch Movie” on my PS3 in my living room and in a few minutes I’m going to retire to my bedroom and maybe turn on the Wii and see how the disc-free service works on it. Thank you Netflix for continuing to be awesome and so reasonably priced compared to how much the cable company wants to deliver me cable TV.

Scott Pilgram Vs. The World was a decent movie I recently saw in the theater and I just discovered that they made an awesome game to go along with the movie. The 2D side scroller game reminds me of River City Ransom type graphics. The game seems pretty deep. It lets you buy items, level up and learn new moves on your way to defeating seven angry boyfriends. This PSN exclusive is only $10 and looks to me like a must buy, as in I must buy it tonight.
Due to the success of Little Big Planet, Media Molecule is making Little Big Planet 2 which now has a release date of November 16. The $79.99 Collectors edition package will come with a ton of extra swag including:
Rumor has it that Sackboy has reason to smile because word on the streets is that Little Big Planet will become a greatest hits game very soon. When that happens, the color of the game box magically turns to a transparent red and the price magically falls to $29.99 MSRP. By the way it’s the GOTY edition that’s rumored to become a Greatest Hit which means that in addition to the standard game, it features exclusive levels from 18 members of the LittleBigPlanet community, the “Metal Gear Solid“, “Monsters” and “History” costume and level packs and the “Animals” costume pack.
The other games rumored to be getting Greatest Hits status are:
- Killzone 2
- Resistance 2
- UFC Undisputed

Mega Man 10 came out the other day which is impressive considering the orignal Mega Man came out 23 years ago but I think that just as impressive is this PS3 Theme related to the newly released game. While the buttons you push in no way control the outcome of the race, the price of the dynamic theme is only $2.99 and I will be downloading it soon.
SCEA’s John Koller has revealed that after multiple 3D firmware updates this summer, PS3 will be able to play 3D games and movies.
3D is a major part of our initiatives in 2010 and we’re currently developing 3D stereoscopic games to come in conjunction with the launch of Sony’s 3D compatible BRAVIA LCD TV in summer 2010. The amazing thing about the PS3′s technology is that all PS3 units that exist in homes and markets will be able to play 3D stereoscopic games as well as 3D BD movies through separate firmware upgrades – something that other platforms are unable to do. We’ll be announcing actual game titles separately later, but we think that 3D stereoscopic gaming has a ton of potential, particularly in placing consumers within the actual experience.

It’s been rumored for quite some time but yesterday Sony announced pricecuts for the PS3 along with the PS3 Slim. The PS3 Slim will come with you choice of a 120GB or 250GB hard drive and they start at $299. The Slim consumes 34 percent less power and takes up 32 percent less space than the Phat version. In addition to this news Sony also announced that the PS3 will also get new firmware 3.00 update that brings a bunch of new features including status indicator, custom themes, avatars, redesigned friends list and trophies. Sony has slashed the price of the current phat PS3 to $299 while we eagerly wait for the Slim this September 1.
If you’re a fan of Guitar Hero or Rock band and the tons of controllers they come with then you may like this news.. if you’re into house music. According to DJ Hero’s Twitter page, the DJ Hero game will feature a controller that looks like what’s above. No word yet on if the turntable will spin partially of fully yet. The official webpage is now live too @ djhero.com although there’s not much on it yet.
As a fan of both Lego and Rock Band, this is exciting news. Lego and Rock Band are working together to come out with a video game this holiday season on PS3, 360, Wii and DS. Lego Rock Band will use all the existing Rock Band and Guitar Hero peripherals although a premium guitar you could build out of Legos wouldn’t be a bad idea and would probably sell well. Lego Rock Band will be more family focused and will include songs like:
- Blur: “Song 2″
- Carl Douglas: “Kung Fu Fighting”
- Europe: “The Final Countdown”
- Good Charlotte: “Boys and Girls”
- Pink: “So What”

Even though the above image looks like it’s from a panda bear training simulation game, it’s actually a screen from the upcoming Namco fighting game, Tekken 6. The game has been in Japanese arcades since November, 2007. Virtually all of the Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection characters will be returning plus there will be some new additions to the lineup bringing the total up to 42 characters. It is expected to arrive on the both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 on October 16, 2009.
